Inspired by British Textile Designer of the 1800’s – William Morris, the project of hand- printed textiles was born with the aim to offer local ladies and moms a skills-training program at the Steilhoogte Primary School near Vredendal.

The program developed into a sustainable business – Beehive Studios was created as a distribution, marketing and product development entity whilst the ladies are today the proud director – owners of Namaqua Hand Printed Textiles.

Beehive Studios aims to host and develop similar projects within the textile, décor and craft industry. Apart from making a trendy product our focus is people: an attempt to give hope and opportunity. Our focus: Skills development, Job creation, entrepreneurial training, life skills training and of course uniquely designed products that will give every one the same pleasure we experience from making it.

Hemp Fabric

Hemp is one of the most eco friendly products on the market – apart from its natural look and feel, linen-like texture, Hemp is also stronger and more durable than any other natural fabric, including linen and cotton, which almost matches hemps abrasion resistance and tensile strength. The result is that hemp has a longer lifespan than other natural fabrics. Hemp’s superior absorbency, due to its porous nature, means that it is very breathable and quick drying. Hemp can absorb up to 20% its own weight while still feeling dry to the touch and just become better with every wash. Finally, any product made of hemp is fully biodegradable and easily recyclable.

All our products are:

• 100% Organic Hemp fabric / 100% cotton / 100% Linen.
• Handprinted.
• We recommend products to be hand washed – but we had no problems yet
  with products washed in a washing machine at 30 degrees.
• As the product is made of organic fabrics and is handprinted – colours may
  vary and imperfections may occur.

Calligraphy art is original designed for Beehive – the artist, Heleen de Haas, has a studio in Prince Albert – Die Letterhuis. Visit their web page at:
